Moritz Von Oswald - Catalunya Calling
(Picture property of RBMA)
Here is a link to a 'pirate' recording of Moritz Von Oswald at Red Bull Music Academy Radio.
Why pirate ? Because initially the show can't be downloaded so I recorded it via Ableton Live and then did the MP3 for those of us who love so much the music and wish to keep an archive of the show.
This show is even more interesting since Moritz Von Oswald explain quite a lot of things about his tracks selection.
I'll maybe need a good lawyer soon if Red Bull Music Academy doesn't appreciate that much... :-)

Mitch Walcott 'Ambient Works Darkly'
(Picture property of Mitch Walcott)
Mitch Walcott sent me few days ago his new project 'Ambient Works Darkly' and I was quite excited being able to listen the complete realization before any other since I always had a deep interest for his compositions.
What a surprise I had after only a couple of minutes hearing Mitch Walcott sounds and textures, 'it's killer' is the only expression that has been coming to my mind.
'Ambient Works Darkly' is some sort of a compilation of the best productions Mitch Walcott recorded since now a couple of years but it goes deeper, Mitch took time to extend some tracks, to reworks some others and added few unreleased ones.
It's very 'spacey' and of course 'dark'. My favorite tracks are the ones from his splendid project 'Europa' (available on Axis Records subdivision Tomorrow) and 'Titan' (available on Wildub).
Mitch managed to create is own galaxy of sounds and feelings, you'll hear it clearly when you'll download the release, it's a pure soundtrack for a travel into space.
It's always based on a very complex production but quite accessible for the lambda listener. I think it's needed to play it more than one time and with a particular mood /quiet atmosphere to really understand where Mitch is taking you and to discover as well all the subtleness of his work.
It's far away from the straight 'in your face' 4/4 techno rhythm, it ask us to immerse ourselves in the artist universe since each compositions takes the time it need to self develop and evolves.
Mitch Walcott will offer 'Ambient Works Darkly' for free on 27/11/09 from midnight precisely and the complete project is free. Excellent gift.
I highly advise all of you to put an ear on this release, to keep an eye on Mitch Walcott website and to come back on Wildtek blog, these tracks gave me the envy to record a podcast with some ambient/electronica that I'll offer few hours after the official availability of 'Ambient Works Darkly'.

24 H Berlin - 8 DVD Box
(Picture property of Zero One Films)
If you missed this fantastic report, the longer in TV history, here's a chance to put your hands on the complete project coming along few bonus like Making-Of, interviews, ...
Officially available on 27/11/09 for 59 euros.
I personally watched it live on Arte during 24 hours and I enjoyed this long TV session. It offered a precise and large vision on what life can be in Berlin. From the guy addicted to heroin to the top international DJ, this report managed to inform the spectator about various peoples life avoiding voyeurism, focusing on the relation between each one experience and the city itself.
Feel free to have a look at my previous posts about the project :

http://wildtek.blogspot.com/2009/09/live-blogging.html
I hope Zero One Films will produce another reports like this one. I would be curious to know about life in Moscow, New York, Mexico, Tokyo, etc...
This DVD will definitely find a place in my small collection, yes, I'm not a big DVD buyer. But for me it's like a 'collector'. Considering my love for the city of Berlin, my love for interesting reports and the fact that it is the first time such a long project is realized, it worth every cents.

Jamal Moss Interview at RA
(Picture property of Jamal Moss/Mathematics Chicago)
Some of Wildtek blog readers maybe knows it or not, I had the chance to remix a Chicago legend on Mathematics Records : Steve Poindexter.
Add to this that I appeared with two tacks on the first label compilation, each thing about the label is of high interest for my side.
So, I was very happy when I saw Resident Advisor offering to Jamal Moss their 'Label Of The Month' page.
His interview is top notch. You can appreciate or not his music, I think the man deserves to be heard. It's one of the best interviews I ever had the chance to read. Honest, real. No marketing bullshit, no complains, no disrespect of others 'in the industry'... Just talking freely about what he thinks and how he manage the label.
I'm proud having produced tracks for a label owned by a guy with such a straight opinion/view on today's scene.
I highly advise anyone to read this interview, then come back on others interviews and make your own judgment on who is really all about the music...

The interview comes along a very nice mix by Jamal Moss, few Chicago treasures inside it...
Enjoy !

Travel Tools #03
One of the most useful tool I bought is this little USB clip light. I rarely perform 'digital DJ mixs' but when I do it, I use lot of assigned keys on my keyboard to move between clips in Ableton, to start/stop effects, etc... Did you ever managed to see clearly a computer keyboard in the darkness of clubs ?
I can clip this USB light wherever I need it and it offers me a very precise and clear vision of what I have under my fingers.
Found it for 6/7 euros.
Of course USB lights, HD's, mouses, controllers, etc... You'll need a good amount of USB ports... The classic USB HUB will save your life. Very various prices, sizes, ...
If you have to move from the stage and let your computer alone, this little tool can help to not being stolen. I would prefer a pit bull but most clubs worldwide don't accept them so... We need alternatives. It's not 100 % guaranteed but the guy who wish to stole your computer will have a few minutes fighting with a knife and the solid cable, during this time, we can hope someone will notice this bad action and stop him...
I often hear peoples saying "Hey ! I took great pictures of you"
Nice, I would like to have them so. But with all the various formats of cards found in today's cameras, chances to own the right port on your computer to read these cards are dramatically reduced.
This little multi-card reader manage 42 different formats so it increase the chances to go back home with the fantastic shots of your performance. Only a few euros as well.
Never used it but I keep it in case of ... It's a little USB sound card and from few tests I've done at the studio it doesn't sound bad, it's even better than original In/Out included on the computer. It could not replace my real sound card (EMU 1616M) because no MIDI and no multiple outs but it should do the job for some precise situations. 12 Euros.
